The John Betlem family is pleased to announce a milestone – John Betlem Heating & Cooling, Inc. is celebrating 75 years of meeting the home comfort needs of the Rochester, N.Y. area. The company, which was started in the 1940s by John Betlem and spans three generations, has grown to serve the city of Rochester, Monroe County and the surrounding areas.
Currently, John Betlem Heating & Cooling caters primarily to the residential market, with around 10 percent of their customers being light commercial. They focus mainly on replacement of pre-existing units as opposed to new construction. The company currently employs 48 and operates a fleet of 34 vehicles. Technicians are highly trained at the John Betlem Institute, an on-site educational center that provides apprenticeship training. Robert Betlem owns John Betlem Heating & Cooling, and his children Kathy, David, Steven, and Jim, as well as cousins Jim Lytle and Darryl Fishbaugh, are all a part of the company’s leadership committee.
The company specializes in designing, engineering, and installing complete comfort systems for owners of existing homes and buildings. As part of my annual maintenance contract, the John Betlem service technician, Andrew, performed a maintenance check of our home A/C system. He was extremely thorough and professional, explaining all that he did, which included identifying and replacing a defective starter unit on the outdoor A/C unit. The service rendered by John Betlem since joining them several years ago has been and continues to be outstanding.
Annual furnace maintenance was performed by Zack. He was professional, thorough & friendly. He replaced our furnace filter, made sure our humidifier was working properly & adjusted it for optimum performance. Am very happy with John Betlem & its service technicians.
I had a new gas hot water tank installed that I bought from John Betlem. I called 1 day and then 2 days later they installed it. I added an extended warranty for a nominal fee. Their techs are the best and they have the best service. They may not be the cheapest but you do get piece of mind and the best service and support you could hope for. I have contracts with them for my AC, Heating, and standby generator too. Thank you JB for always being there.

Dave Betlem came on a winter Sunday morning when the furnace quit, repaired the issue economically, trying to do so without replacing parts, and returned when the issue recurred the next day because a part did fail after all. On time, courteous, a nice gentleman, efficient and knowledgeable. My next call, on a hot summer day when the A/C was not doing the job, Phil, the A/C service tech, came out and was great, friendly, very knowledgeable, explained the breakdown causes and options clearly and fairly. Love to have him back! I recommend this company and especially Phil and Dave Betlem!
