The John Betlem family is pleased to announce a milestone – John Betlem Heating & Cooling, Inc. is celebrating 75 years of meeting the home comfort needs of the Rochester, N.Y. area. The company, which was started in the 1940s by John Betlem and spans three generations, has grown to serve the city of Rochester, Monroe County and the surrounding areas.
Currently, John Betlem Heating & Cooling caters primarily to the residential market, with around 10 percent of their customers being light commercial. They focus mainly on replacement of pre-existing units as opposed to new construction. The company currently employs 48 and operates a fleet of 34 vehicles. Technicians are highly trained at the John Betlem Institute, an on-site educational center that provides apprenticeship training. Robert Betlem owns John Betlem Heating & Cooling, and his children Kathy, David, Steven, and Jim, as well as cousins Jim Lytle and Darryl Fishbaugh, are all a part of the company’s leadership committee.

As part of my annual maintenance contract, the John Betlem service technician, Andrew, performed a maintenance check of our home A/C system. He was extremely thorough and professional, explaining all that he did, which included identifying and replacing a defective starter unit on the outdoor A/C unit. The service rendered by John Betlem since joining them several years ago has been and continues to be outstanding.
Annual furnace maintenance was performed by Zack. He was professional, thorough & friendly. He replaced our furnace filter, made sure our humidifier was working properly & adjusted it for optimum performance. Am very happy with John Betlem & its service technicians.

Mike Swartz came to our rescue when there was no cooling from our heat pump system. The outdoor fan unit would not turn. What Mike found was during the winter mice had built a nest in the unit and chewed through a wire that allowed the fan to function. Mike cleared out the nest as well as the dead electrocuted rodents ( it was gruesome ), replaced the wiring and recycled the system. We were as good as new within 45 minutes of Mike’s arrival. Mike was prompt, professional, respectful, and demonstrated good interpersonal skills explaining to us what he found and what was needed to repair our system. We so appreciate Mike and Betlem Residential. I give them 5 stars and highly recommend them. We have been using Betlem Residential for the last 10 years and they have taken excellent care of us.
The technicians replaced the entire circuit breaker box as well as all the circuit breakers. They also labeled the new box very clearly and finished everything in one day. They also help to correct another electrical issue in the house and did so without question. Very happy with the price And product. I would definitely use their services again
